1)  Answer ANY FIVE questions, atleast TWO from each GROUP A and B.

                                                 Group – A

1. ’India is called a sub-continent ‘.why ?
Answer:India is a part of a continent
Ø It has the features of a great geographical extend
Ø It has distinctive character in population and climate
Ø It has varied geographical factors
2.Give a brief account on major problems of rainfall in India ?
Answer:The rainfall in India is uncertain,irregular and highly variable.It is not evenly distributed.It makes the Indian agriculture ‘a gamble on it’.Too little rain and too much rain are the major problems.Both are harmful because they cause damage to crops
3. Name the important forest based Industries?
Answer: The forest based Industries are paper, newsprint, matches, card board boxes, plywood, dyes, medicines, tan oils, beedies, lac products, honey collection, fruits, rubber, sandal wood powder and products, resins, manufacturing of cups and plates etc.
4. What are the problems of population explsion ?
Answer:High grow rate in population resulting in overall growth in population explosion.
Evil effects:
·      Standard of living decreases.
·      Pollution of all types arise.
·      Population explosion leads to depletionof natural resources like land,soil water,flora and fauna and also creates ecological imbalances.

5.Define National and state parties ?
Answer:
State party: a party which secures at least four vpercent of valid votes in ageneral election either to the loksabha or vidhan sabha is recognized as a state party.It is also called regional party.
Eg:Telugu Desam in Andhra Pradesh.
National Party:A party which recognized as a state party at least in four states is given the status of National party.Eg:Bharithya  Janata party,Congress party
6.Mention the objectives of the SAARC ?
Answer:SAARC is the abbreviated form of South Asian Association for regional cooperation.It was launched in December,1985.Its objectives are:
Ø To promote the welfare of the people of South Asia
Ø To achieve economic,social and cultural development
Ø To make the South-Asian countries self reliant
Ø To understand each other’s problems

7.Mention any three safety measures for riding bicycles ?
Answer:Bicycle is the most commonly used means of travel and transport in India.We find a plenty of them in urban and rural areas.The riders of the bicycles should observe the following safety measures
Ø They should not drive their bicycles recklessly because at times they may lose the control of their vehicle
Ø They should not stop suddenly without signaling
Ø They should never try to compete with the power driven vehicles

8.What were the steps taken to eradicate illiteracy ?
Answer:In 1988 National literacy mission was set up to impart functional literacy to adult illiteraces.Total literacy campaign was launched in 400 districts.The state Governments undertook such literacy campaigns like ‘Each one teach one’,Akshara Jyothi,Adult Night school campaigns etc.Some voluntary organizations came forward to eradicate illiteracy in rural areas.Departments of adult education were set up and funds were provided to them

9.What is Mac Mohan Line ?
Answer:The dividing line between India and China is Mac Mohan line
10.Name the important four based industries  ?
Answer:Paper,Dyes,oils and medicines
11.what are the important measures of soil conservation ?
Answer:Cantour bunding,Terracing,Furrowing,Planting trees and Construction of clerk dams
12.Define socialist economic system.Give two examples ?
Answer:The system wherein the production and distribution of goods and services is owned by public enterprises is called  socialist economic system Eg:china
13.Define ‘Poverty Line’ ?
Answer:The total consumption expenditure on the minimum basic needs is the ‘Poverty Line’
14. Who is the chairman of the Planning Commission ?
Answer:The Prime Minister is the chairman of Planning Commossion.

15. What is sub-continent? Explain how India can be called a sub-continent?
Answer: A country with a great geographical extent and distinctive characteristics features is called a sub-continent. In this aspect, India is called a sub-continent because :
·      India is a large country with an area of 3.28 million square kilometers. It is the seventh largest country in area in the world.
·      India with a population of 121 crores as per the census of 2011, stands second, next to China in world population.
·      People speak different languages in India.
·      There is a clear variation in climate in different parts of India.
·      Many religions like Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism etc., exist in India.
·      India has got natural boundaries.
·      There is difference in food habits, traditions and custom in India.
·      Different geographical factors operate in India.
·      India is by itself a part of the content, Asia.
16.Describe the mechanism of monsoon in India ?
Answer:Monsoon means blowing of moist laden winds in a particular season and also in a specific direction.These winds reverse seasonally between the Indian sub-continent and the Indian ocean.
Ø From mid-March to mid-september,the monsoon winds blow from south-westerly direction and from mid-september to mid-march they blow from a north-easterly direction
Ø Monsoon winds are caused by thermal contrast
Ø An intensive low pressure develops on the land surface during the summer season.It draws air from the high pressure region of the sea.Thus the South-West monsoon is caused

17.What do you mean by a muti-purpose project ?Mention its main objectives ?
Answer: The projects that serve a number of purpose simultaneously are called multi-purpose projects .Ex:Bhakra Nangal Project in Himachal Pradesh,Nagarjunsagar project in Andhra Pradesh
Main objectives:
Ø To provide better and extensive irrigation facilities for the increase of agricultural production
Ø To control floods and minimize the havoc caused by floods
Ø To develop internal navigation
Ø To encourage fish culture
Ø Soil conservation
18.What are the problems faced by Indian agriculture ?
Answer:The following are the main problems faced by Indian agriculture:
·      In India,monsoon rainfall is very uncertain and cannot be dependent upon
·      There is a lot of soil erosion and loss of fertility of the land
·      The land is facing fragmentation and sub-division
·      The majority of our farmers are illiterate
·      There is low manuring of land and less use of fertilizers
·      Irrigation facilities in our country are not adequate
·      There is a lack of capital and lack of sufficient credit facilities for agriculture

Group – B
19.What are the characteristics of Indian Economy during the British period ?
Answer: During british period Indian economy was a backward one:
Ø The village communities were not self-sufficient.There was no surplus production to export
Ø There was continuos exploitation of natural resources,material wealth and raw materials
Ø Indian products coull not compete with the imported british goods which were sold at cheap rate
Ø The british plundered the wealth of india on various forlms like heavy taxation,home charges,administrative expenses

20. Differentiate involuntary and voluntary unemployment.what is the relevance of disguised unemployment in India ?
Answer:
Unemployment:it is the stock of these individuals who are not gainfull employed in any productive work or who are unable to find work at the existing real wage rate
Involuntary Unemployment:it is the thrusted one on individuals.it refers to a situation where the individuals are prepared to work at the existing real wage rate but to not find jobs anywhere
Voluntary Unemployment:it refers to those rich people who are not willing to work at any wage rate.Some people do not undertake any productive work because they want leisure
Disguised unemployment:it refers to the stock of gainfully employed individuals who do not work to their full capacity.This type of unemployment is in agricultural sector,industrial sector and ill developed service sector


21. What is the role of public in Indian industralisation ?
Answer:public sector means the government or its affilitated corporations establishing and maintaining yhe heavy strategy
Ø Heavy strategy was implemented
Ø There are 135 public sectors undertaking now and they contribute much to Indian industralisation
Ø It was instrumental for decentralization of industries
Ø It created employment opportunities
Ø It helped in the promotion of technical knowledge
Ø It reduces the regional imbalances
22. What are the general and specific objectives of planning in India ?
Answer: General objectives:
Ø To improve national income and raise the standard of living in the country.
Ø To attain rapid industrialization with an emphasis on basic and heavy industries.
Ø To create and expand employment opportunities.
Ø To increase employment opportunities.

·      Specific objectives:
Ø The First five year plan(1951-56)-Priority to Agriculture.
Ø The Second five year plan(1956-61)-Priority to industries sector.
Ø The Third five year plan(1961-66)-Self reliance was main objective.
Ø The Fourth  five year plan(1969-74)-Removal of poverty,Growth with justice.
Ø The Fifth five year plan(1974-79)-Removal of poverty and self reliance.
Ø The Sixth five year plan(1980-85)-The emphasis same as v plan.
Ø The Seventh five year paln(1985-90)-Food production,employment,Productivity.
Ø The Eighth five year plan(1992-97)-Employment generation,control of population etc.
Ø The Ninth five year plan(1997-2002)-Growth rate of 7 percent.
Ø The Tenth five year plan(2002-2007)-Self employment and resources and development.
Ø The Eleventh five year plan(2007-2012)-Comprehensive and faster growth.
